Why I like Hillary

Why do I like Hillay when she is almost certain to lose? That is the very reason I like her, because she is almost certain to lose. When others looking at the numbers would have bowed out gracefully there is something inside her that says "go on". We are very much a nation of quitters. We quit when we have 2 kids and a mortgage and let our bodies and minds go to seed. We give up on relationships and seemingly divorce at the drop of a hat when the going gets tough. We are a nation where nearly half the citizenry doesn't bother voting. We quit high school, college and university for any variety of manufactured reasons.

So my admiration for Hillary is that she defies popular wisdom. She listens to her own drummer. She has had it doubly tough as a woman. Despite all the ridicule she trundles on with her message. Despite near insurmountable odds she perseveres. I can tell you which candidate I would want in my foxhole!

Maybe this is the pluck of an earlier age. Something out of a Knute Rockne halftime sermon. She may not be president this time round. But don't ever doubt that this lady has heart and the mettle of the great presidents.

You can dismiss the scoffers most of whom have never even taken a swipe at the brass ring. It is easy to be buoyant in front of sycophants and supporters. How much braver a feat when all you hear is the chorus of your detractors and constant criticism of
self appointed pundits? I think Hillary truly is a profile in courage. Churchill underwent two decades of derision. Did he succumb?

I don't know when Hillary will be president but I think it is a good bet that she will be one day.

I like Hillary Clinton too.  She's an enigma. She always claim to have Commander in Chief qualities...but it is apparent she doesn't understand military strategy or tactics at all because she has reached the culminating state/point but continues on without resources or a sound strategy to win.  What's her aim?  I like a fighter if they have a purpose but when there is no purpose, it is a waste of energy and resources a la the Iraq War.

This I can agree with - and I admire your loyalty to your candidate.

Obama supporter her, but I appreciate the positive tone of your diary.  I also agree with the substance.  Rec'd.

Re: Why I like Hillary (2.00 / 2)

Excellent diary - rec'd :)

One point though... I'm not so sure she's "certain to lose."  She's tough and certainly not a quitter.  But this race is closer than the pundits and haters would have you believe and I have no doubt that she'll take this to the convention for a vote.  Get it all on record :)

So hang in there and keep fighting the good fight gang!

Obama supporter here and thanks for your perspective.  You answered a question I have often asked and now I better understand.  All the reasons you present make good sense.

Well done.

Clinton's toughness (none / 0)

It's difficult not to respect her.

She's tough as nails.

She might not get to be President, but she would excel as a leader in the Senate.  What a contrast she would be to Harry Reid.

Agreed (none / 0)

I've had some issues with her as a senator (AUMF, Iran... but there's no need to rehash this here). If she took the fighting spirit she's displayed towards the end of this campaign to the Senate, she could do a world of good.

A second Clinton presidency is unlikely at this point. If McCain wins (unlikely, but possible), she'll have a shot in 2012. In 2016 (assuming that a Republican took office in 2012 or Obama;s second term is ending) it might be too late (age), but who knows?

I actually (1.00 / 2)

don't like her at all but I respact her as a politician. She has somehow found a way to manipulate old women into thinking she is the icon of modern-day feminism.  She has manipulated poorer and uneducated folk into thinking that she is of the beer-drinking working class.

And these groups have bought it hook, line and sinker. She's definitely a piece of work, I'll give you that much.

Give it a rest..... (2.00 / 1)

This sentiment is just as thin as the claims that younger, highly educated voters have somehow been duped into voting for Obama solely because of his magnetic personality.

Why can't we all just acknowledge that we have two popular candidates that have appealed to different segments of the Democractic electorate?

You Missed the Point (2.00 / 1)

I am merely saying why I like Hillary. If you have reasons for liking Barack write your own diary.
This was just my personal sense of her character.
There is no reason to leave it alone. She has taken withering fire (admittedly some imagined) but she
has a sense of mission. And given her many years of public service and her dedication to this party, she ought to be admired not ridiculed. The unremitting ad hominem attacks on Hillary have left me angry. If I must it will be a very unenthusiastic vote that I cast for Barack Obama.
