Congratulations Hillary! from an Obama fan

Congratulations to Hillary and her supporters on her victory in South Dakota!  Well done.

I wanted to create a thread where Obama fans can offer sincere congratulations and acknowledge everything great about Hillary.  And for that matter, Hillary fans can do the same for Obama.  I hope everyone will respect the intent of this diary with your POSITIVE, gracious comments.

I've read hundreds of opinions for why Hillary is great.  Many of them were when Al Giordano at The Field had the Convince a Superdelegate thread.  (Warning - not a Clinton-friendly website, though that particular thread was non-partisan and had hundreds of participants from across the spectrum.)  And when I started, I will freely admit, I was not very happy with her.  I was not very open to admiring her.  I thought I already knew what I needed to know.

But I read anyways.  And while my preference did not change, I recognized some of the things people love about Hillary.  She knows her stuff.  She oozes competence and confidence.  Her commitment and work ethic are incomparable.  Hillary has weathered trials and tribulations like a champ.  She has the confidence of many colleagues.  Just like Obama, she represents a historic opportunity to break a shameful glass ceiling in American politics.  And in that respect they're both hugely important symbols to me and many, many others.

I can respect all of that.  I can admire it.  She cares about the same issues I do, by and large.  I'd have no problem voting for Hillary if she were the nominee.

I'm proud that the Democratic Party is the one that fielded two historic candidacies, breaking barriers of gender and race.  I'm proud that we had two powerhouses to choose from.  (Some parties don't even have one, and how sad that is for them.)  Please join me in honoring the candidate you personally didn't support in the primaries.  Thanks.

Congratulations tonight to both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton. I was very proud to support Sen. Clinton, but tonight, I realized how proud I will be to support Sen. Obama. The man is nothing if not historic, and I look forward to supporting him.

To be honest at the beginning of 2008 I just didn't like Hillary.  My parents are very anti-Clinton indy/repubs and I had heard the worst for many a year.

She changed my mind.  She is an amazing politician and fighter.  When people counted her out in February, then March, then April, etc., she kept fighting.  She kept fighting and kept working.

I hope she brings her amazing tenacity to the election in the fall.

I was a disappointed in her speech tonight and look forward to a more gracious one in the coming days...

Once she accepts the reality of the situation, and realizes that Denver is not the answer, I will be happy to congratulate, as well as send her some money to pay for debts.

Until then, I respectfully cannot.

Congratulations from this house of Obama supporters as well. It's been frustrating and long -- mostly due to reading too much of the Intertubes during these months -- but it was great to see that every state did, indeed, matter up to the end, and she helped make the party and our chances stronger as a result. I'm even re-thinking my previous position of the viability of the Dream Ticket. But for now, just CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS to Hillary and her supporters!
